Uncertain about thistle seed I purchased thistle seeds because I was told there are finches in my area and that they love thistle seeds. Offered the seeds in a thistle bag, then in a tube feeder, both very near a feeder with black sunflower seeds and another with standard song-bird seeds. The only visiting finch is the House finch (Carpodacus mexicanus), which seems to prefer sunflower to thistle seeds. Thistle seeds remain untouched. Three kinds of goldfinch are supposed to be local, but I have need none.
Hooray birdseed A couple of pounds of thistle goes a long way with the little birds that eat it. I’ve got quite a few goldfinches and chickadees visiting the feeder every day, and the bag has lasted a couple of weeks.
