Excellent quality but…. This Weatherguard is a definitely needed accessory for the Squirrel Buster Plus feeder as the main complaint we have had about them is that rain can get into the feeder holes and cake the bird seed. When I learned they were coming out with this item, I was eager to buy them (we have 2 feeders) and install them. They are well made but I have one concern and that is it mounts too low down for some birds that previously came to the feeders like blue jays. It’s possible its size and closeness…
has finally figured out how to successfully enjoy a bird food smorgasbord using this weathergaurd The Squirrel Buster Plus feeder alone does allow rainwater to blow into the feeding holes. This nifty and expensive piece of plastic does help prevent that. However, it is so low on the feeder than larger songbirds were discouraged from using it for a while, since it takes some effort to maneuver between the dome and the perch. Most birds stopped coming to the feeder for a few weeks. They finally figured it out, thankfully, and are back to feeding enthusiastically.
Squirrels foiled with this feeder. Works perfectly at preventing squirrels and larger birds like crows from stealing seed, while allowing the rest to feed. A metal guard closes the feeding ports as soon as more than “bird” weight is put on it.
