KAYTEE Safflower Seed is a high oil content seed that is very desirable to cardinals as well as other backyard birds. As an added benefit, safflower helps discourage squirrels from eating because of its bitter taste. Because squirrels dislike this seed, it is a good food to offer where squirrels are a problem at the feeder. Feed KAYTEE Safflower Seed alone or you can mix with other straight grains and blends to draw in your favorite birds.

Birds love safflower seed! My lovebird LOVES safflower seed. I have not been able to find any stores in the area that sell a seed mixture that has a high safflower count so I’m buying this to reduce wasted seed. I mix this in with the store bought seed to increase the safflower count. My love bird is much happier now, and I’m replacing seed much less often. Also, pretty much every wild bird in the area also loves this stuff. I get plenty of mourning doves, red breasted house finches, and gold finches will hang out…
Bye-bye blackbirds! I had so much trouble with not just squirrels at my bird feeder, but dozens of blackbirds! They congregate and consume all of the mixed seed within an hour, leaving nothing for the cardinals and finches. Not any more – I have not seen a single squirrel in my yard since switching to safflower seed, and the blackbirds (grackles also) disappeared after a few visits to the feeder. It’s so nice to see the songbirds enjoying the feeder without marauders!
