Be Carefull The picture in the description is NOT the item being sold. This one is the tiny 1 pint sized feeder without a center chain holder, and the stated diameter is that of the seed catcher at the bottom – not the feeding tube. I seriously doubt more than one bird could fit on this feeder at a time.Don’t get snookered like I did.
Just the right size My finches are spoiled and do not like stale seed so this feeder is just the right size. I have two of these and like them over the larger longer feeders that are out there. I tried the ‘sock’ type feeders and wasn’t too pleased. The wire mesh for the birds is just right for dispensing the feed without wasting it or without it being too difficult for them to get out.
Put it out and they will come I had not seen any goldfinches around my feeders and a friend suggested the nyjer seed. Tried a sock at first, however they are very wasteful, seeds fall on the ground a lot and this seed is pretty expensive. This feeder is perfect, not to big, it has the metal lip at the bottom that catches the seeds that fall which is great. Now I have goldfinches! I have seen four at once, hopefully more as they find the feeder. Yes, if you want goldfinches you need a nyjer feeder to bring them and this one…
