Too messy and wasteful I own this product and finches love it however it is too porous. Much of the precious nyjer is wasted on the ground beneath. For a fraction of the price I bought a THISTLE SAK FEEDER by Gardner/Homestead and remedied the situation. The mesh is finer yet sturdy. I am now visited by dozens of finches without mounds of wasted uneaten seeds. Give it a try, you’ll more than make up the cost in no time!
Good to find It is amazing that Wal-Mart and other retailers carry the feeder, but none of them have the replacement socks. They do wear out with the birds pecking and the elements beating them up. I guess they just want you to buy new feeders all the time. Though the socks are too expensive for what you get, it is still cheaper than replacing the feeder.
Long Lasting We bought these socks after trying to wash and mend those that came with the original feeders. We have two double feeders so I bought 4 boxes, hoping we could thus last the season. Not only are these replacement socks easy to put on the tubes but they last a long time. Our yard is VERY popular with our feathered friends.
