Have a major moth problem now! When I received the seed, there was a small hole in the bottom and some seed was in the box. Since I was going to put the seed into a large airtight container, I didn’t see a problem. It was just a small hole. I dumped it into my container, sealed it and cleaned my bird’s cage. Then, I filled a four lb. container with seed for everyday use. When I opened the large airtight container to fill the smaller one, I was bombarded with moths! Not happy! Spent the next 20 minutes chasing and killing…
Way too many sunflower seeds! The bag that I received has way more sunflower seeds than I would have expected from the photo. I feed by using a small scoop and sometimes the scoop will have about 75% sunflower seeds. They’re the small black really fatty ones, so I’m not sure this is great for the birds. I “dilute” this with “no sunflower” mix to reduce the amount of sunflower seeds in the day’s feed.
Lots of sunflower! I love Hagen seed quality, but there is way too many sunflower seeds in the mix. I do like my small birds to have some amount of sunflower seeds though, so I usually buy 1 bag of cockatiel seed and 2 bags parakeet and I mix them together.
