  1. Squirrel Proof, or dang close We have squirrels. Man, do we have squirrels. Oak trees and squirrels and squirrels. And even the most guaranteed squirrel proof birdfeeders are half empty by the end of the first day. This bird feeder has had seed in it for a MONTH now. A MONTH!! The squirrels tried and tried and tried, and maybe here or there, they’d hang from a back foot from the lid of this feeder and eat a few mouthfuls of seed: I’m not going to begrudge a hardworking squirrel a fistful of seed.   2. “New” bird feeder is good. But watch out for “Like New” feeder (mine was covered in bird poop!) This feeder holds a lot of seed (which is one reason I bought this), and is fairly squirrel-proof. The lid slides up and swings out of the way for loading the seed, and stays attached to the feeder while doing so. So, it has a convenience factor.But, one design flaw (as mentioned by others) is the fact that the lid does not snap into place nor is it kept in place by anything other than its weight.   3. Keeps the Squirrels Out!! This feeder has kept out the squirrels! I am amazed. They tried a few times but gave up. Feeder holds a good amount of seed! So far the little birds haven’t tried it. Cardinals love it. Nice, sturdy construction. Definitely recommend.
