It works! I purchased this as I had roof rats running through my tree and down to raid my bird feeder…. this is the largest one I was able to find- and the only one I felt that would do the job. And it does. The rats have not been seen in the couple months I’ve had this up. Squirrels have not been able to get to the feeder, either. My only reason for not rating it 5 stars is the price is awfully high for what it is- a piece of plastic/plastic dome with a loop & a hook in the middle. I guess they feel…
some of the squirrels are smarter…. Some, but not all, of my squirrel population outsmarted this baffle. However, I then hung another baffle between this one and the feeder, so they have 2 obstacles to cross, and that helped a bit more. This definitely would work better with a short feeder (4-5 inches). The longer feeders give the critters more options when coming down off of the baffle(s).
Large Baffle I had a smaller baffle that squirrels were able to hang by their rear foot and slide down to the feeder. I ordered this larger baffle and it does foil the squirrels and I have no squirrel problem at this time. The only caveat is that due to the 20 inch size, it is very susceptible to winds and if the winds are strong enough, it will thrash the feeder around and empty bird seed on the ground making for easy “pickins” for the squirrels. On calmer days, this large baffle does the trick…
