Wonderful reference, and kiddo-friendly! I got this book several years ago at the Iowa Homeschool Conference. I have since purchased several copies for family members, and am sometimes temped to order a back-up copy for our home when it gets completely loved and worn out…which is bound to happen, considering how often we use this book. I have 3 children, all under 7, and my children use this book on at least a weekly basis, both for bird identification (they are getting quite good, actually), but also for learning small tidbits…
We love this book We love this book, it is mall enough to leave on the table or tuck into a bag. The pictures are colorful and well printed. We just moved to Iowa and saw birds we did not recognize so we are happy to have this smart and concise book. There is just enough information to identify birds but not enough to overwhelm. The birds are organized by color. On the page side of the book on top there is a color code which can be seen when the book is not opened. This makes finding the birds very easy.
Goodbye Google, Hello “Birds of Iowa Field Guide!” This book is a MUST for any Iowa birdwatcher, especially a novice like myself. I have lots of bird feeders & like to know what birds are visiting my feeders & this book has allowed me to know all.of them! I used to use Google, but sometimes Google just doesn’t cut it. The pictures are amazing, up close, and has pics of male AND female versions of each species. Everything you’d want in a bird field guide book. Highly recommend this to anyone interested in birds of Iowa.
