  1. Nice, but no colors! Needed a reference book for identifying birds, but this is more a book of descriptions. The illustrations are drawn in black and white, no help at all for identifying birds by color, and its alphabetic! So you’d have to know your bird to look it up. Good information, but not a help in identifying birds you’d like to be able to learn to recognize.

  2. Informative, but not really a field guide This “field guide” is only a field guide in the sense of the size of the book and the overall brevity of the species accounts. It lacks the detailed art/photos that most bird guides contain to aid in the ID of species. This book is very useful as a secondary reference to a better field guide since it gives information specific to the Big Bend area.
