Perky Pet hummingbird nectar I’ve done further research regarding humminbird diet and have removed my previous review of Perky Pet hummingbird nectar. I don’t think Perky Pet product does any harm to hummers and it’s better than no supplementary feeding at all (supplementary feeding gives hummers the energy they need to hunt for bugs which are their main diet) but have found articles that do settle the concerns I had about table sugar. The article is appended below. Thanks for comment and corrections.
hummingbirds don’t seem to like it I don’t know enough about hummingbirds to have any opinion one way or another about whether dye in the nectar is a good idea. I observe that although we have a lot of hummingbirds in the area, they seem to avoid this nectar. What is the point of paying for food that they won’t eat? I’ve gone back to boiling water and adding 1 cup real sugar to 4 cups water.
Why the dye? Don’t buy this! There is no reason for the manufacturer to put red food coloring into this mix. There are numerous concerns about the effect on hummingbirds. This is reason enough to not buy this product. Buy a product without the dye.
