  1. great solution The goal was: 1) have the feeder high enough to still be able to see it over the rail 2) have the feeder far enough out from the rail that seed hulls and seeds would not be scattered on the deck.   3. This rail is perfect if you want to clamp it onto your vertical rails of your deck I have bought 2 RailHookz as gifts for my children and they love them. It angles the birdfeeder away from the deck and keeps most of the seed debris off of the deck. If you are worried about the clamps marring the vertical rails then use a piece of cabinet lining rubber or a jar opener piece of rubber material to put under the clamps.
