Lots of tweaking, but it works wonderfully now! This feeder is solidly constructed of quality metal and is attractive, and the squirrels can’t get to the food! That’s where the good news ends, however. The design also prevents birds from accessing the seed, too! The lid, as someone else pointed out, does not fit well. The latch did not hold, but that was an easy fix: just bend it some. The real problem is that the lid’s circumference is equal, not greater than, the tube, so water gets in. Beautiful Bird feeder I love to sit in the morning and drink my coffee while watching the birds. I’ve had several bird feeders over the years, but every time I get one, the squirrels get to it. The birds get nothing, and the squirrels are half my size. It wasn’t working.
You must clean every 2 weeks – and almost impossible to clean I missed reading other reviews – I regret that now. The design is defective in that there is no way to remove the plastic cylinder to clean it and no way for the birds (or me) to get to the seeds at the bottom of the tube. The only way to get old seed out of the bottom is to hold the unit upside down and spray a steam of water up into the cylinder, hoping to dislodge the old seeds. I realized the problem as soon as I opened the carton and saw the manufacturer’s sticker on the bottom saying…
