Good feeder! The birds seem to really like this feeder. I find two or three birds feeding at one time from woodpeckers to Rose Breasted Evening Grossbeaks. But the squirrels have a field day with it as well. I placed the feeder on a hook located under the roof overhang. Found a gray squirrel hanging upside down from the roof. He managed to pull open the suet cage, which allowed a brand new suet cake to fall to the ground and break apart. Red squirrels just jump on top and eat handfuls! Guess I need to…
Love it! We have flickers Love it! We have flickers, downy, and hairy woodpeckers. They love this feeder….along with the titmice, nuthatches, finch, blue jays, etc. and even though I believe all birds deserve a right to eat, our starlings take over and think they own the joint. Hard to control this. The feeder is pretty rugged and it is easy to fill. We have some square wire feeders that need to be tied shut or the squirrels open them and take the entire suet block. Oddly, they don’t do this with the hanging…
It’s for the birds This definitely serves its purpose. I have it hanging on a double shepherd hook along side a squirrel proof feeder. I use hot pepper suet to keep the fuzzy tailed rats away. My only complaint with the feeder is that it did not come with a chain or hook from the eye-screw to hang it. The ones in the stores here have a rust resistant chain or cable. I could not find something suitable separately so I used a copper wire.
