About Roof Prism Binoculars:
The prism system of a binocular reduces the size needed to contain a long optical path and turns what would be an upside-down image right-side-up. In roof prism binoculars, the prisms overlap closely, allowing the objective lenses to line up directly with the eyepiece. The result is a slim, streamlined shape in which the lenses and prisms are in a straight line. Roof prism binoculars are less bulky and more rugged than an equivalent porro model.

As Wikipedia ([…] says, “Roof-prisms designs create an instrument that is narrower and more compact than Porro prisms. There is also a difference in image brightness. Porro-prism…

  2. Better than I expected I just use these binoculars for general recreation, spectator sports, and occasionally observing my next-door neighbors’ spats. (C’mon, don’t say you’ve never been tempted.) Several web reviews recommend 10 X 42 for this kind of viewing. For this price, you’re not getting professional-quality optics – but they’re VERY GOOD. Only your pet eagle will know the difference. The image is very stable and clear. The accessories included are nice to have.

  3. Great Binoculars for Price! I bought these for my son to bird watch. They have a real nice professional feel to them and yet they are not huge and bulky. They have some coating on them that makes them nice to hold. All around they are a great deal for $50
