Brome 1016 Squirrel Buster Finch
Equipped with patented Squirrel Buster technology, this Brome 1016 Squirrel Buster Finch feeder offers an innovative design that attracts birds while keeping squirrels at bay. The bird feeder holds 1.4 quarts of bird seed, whether it’s Black Oil sunflower seed (a good all-round birdseed) or other seed blends specific to your area.
The squirrel-proof bird feeder attracts a wide variety of clinging and perching birds including the American Gold Finch, the Chickadee, the Indigo Bunting, and the Purple Finch. The unit features a specialized nyjer/mix feeder for high-quality performance, and its innovative design means that eight birds can feed at the same time.
Squirrel-Proof / Chew-Proof
Openings in the wire shroud align with seed ports and provide birds access to the seed. When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing access to the seed ports. All squirrels and many large birds are blocked from accessing the food, but are not harmed in any way.
The Closing Mechanism
The spring mechanism is calibrated at the factory to close at 4 ounces (115 g). The smaller red squirrels, as well as the larger gray squirrels, are shut out at this setting.
Negative Grip Tube
The bird feeder features a negative grip tube that prevents squirrels from grabbing the wire hanger with their hind legs and hanging alongside the feeder, defeating the closing mechanism.
Seed-Level Indicator
The bottom of the yellow center post cap marks the maximum seed level. Filling past this mark will impede the shroud from closing. Do not fill past this mark.
Patented Seed Tube Ventilation System
Transparent seed tubes are like greenhouses; they trap solar energy. Traditional seed tube cover designs block the escape of heated air. The patented Seed Tube Ventilation System in the Squirrel Buster Finch permits humidity and warm air to escape through vents at the top of the feeder. The escaping air is replaced by fresh air entering through the seed ports. The result: seed remains fresher and attracts more birds.

The Squirrel Buster Finch dismantles for convenient filling, and cleans up easily by hand. Do not put it in the dishwasher; it is not dishwasher-safe.

Caution: You can only use this feeder for thistle or nyjer seed! This is my 3rd Brome, so you know I love their products! I like their feeders for the excellent quality in materials and workmanship. You always get a superior feeder when you buy Brome. The birds love this feeder also. Most days it looks just like the illustration, with a goldfinch crouched at every opening. Birds can’t access the lower 1/4 of the food! While this does protect from squirrels quite well, the design is such that the lower 25% of the food is also protected from any bird eating it! The lowest seed hole is high up on the plastic, so while the finches can look at the nice thistle seed just like the squirrels they can’t access it! So you will end up wasting about a quarter of the seed you put in the feeder. Whoever designed this never thought about how the birds will access the food. Very poor.
Honestly the best feeders you can purchase!! This is our third Brome Squirrel Buster” feeder. They are the absolute BEST. And, better yet, Brome stands behind their products and will replace anything that goes wrong in the future no matter how long you’ve had feeder. The perch on one of the feeders broke (a tenacious squirrel I suspect) and Brome sent a new perch.
