  1. Field-tested I recently birded Sri Lanka with a group of 11 participants. Since the Helm guide is new, only two of us had the book. Others had a different birds of Sri-Lanka or of the Indian sub-continent. These were very helpful field guides too, but our group regretted universally that they had not purchased the new Helm Field Guide.   2. Excellent Field Guide This is an excellent field guide – it’s the one our tour guide used when we visited Bundala National Park, and he gave it a strong recommendation. The book is a nice size to carry into the field, and doesn’t weigh a lot. It has good illustrations of the birds, with a separate section in the back for vagrant visitors to Sri Lanka.
