The demon is kept at bay I used to think squirrels were cute and fluffy, until I got a bird feeder, and I realized that they were demons… Selfish, looking for a handout, rude, demons… This thing is amazing, works exactly as it’s supposed to. I watched 2 squirrels tackle this thing, one from above, one from below, and it was fantastic. The above one jumped from a tree on to the baffle, only to have the baffle give way under him, and my wife and I watched him face plant into the ground, and we about peed ourselves…
Persitent Squirrel identified design flaw (easily remedied). Would have given this five stars but I had to modify the hardware. What was happening was one of the little grey rascals figured out that when accessed at a particular angle the guard wouldn’t tip more than a few degrees and he could successfully do a Mary Lou Retton and gyrate onto the feeder. Reason was is that the screws used to fasten the pivot clamp to the pole were too long. Got out the Dremel tool with a cutting wheel attachment and cut off the excess threads and now we have…
So far, so good So far, so good. i.e. the squirrels have yet to master it.Installing this baffle on the shepherd’s hook was 50% of our solution.However, it does matter how high your feeder is, what kind of pole it hangs from, as well as if there’s anything – literally anything – nearby the squirrels can launch from as a straight shot to the feeder or dig their claws into to grab on and swing over to the feeder (bypassing this pole baffle). Such is the detailed effort required to outwit…
