For quick identification, the Peterson System of field marks is unsurpassed, in my view. The use of paintings rather than photographs distills the essential appearance of the bird, eliminating unnecessary details that would be caught by the camera, thus saving the time to observe these details when they are not needed for identification. A awesome bird guide This may come as a surprise to those of us who enjoy the wonder of watching birds here in th northern states , but this is highly recommended…for one thing it features well over 500 birds to help identify…one does not realize how vast and the many different ecosytems that exist in this state that this book makes plain…just looking at the color plate of hummingbirds blows the mind…and of course there is the master himself Roger Tory Peterson…this book is a reproduction of what came…

  3. Older guide than I thought I didn’t realize how old this guide was, but it was in good condition despite the age. I won’t really be using it because there are newer guides available out there.
