Casual birdwatching in Connecticut… Here’s a truly portable field guide to common bird species in Connecticut. In just under 300 pages, organized by basic color, are dozens of birds. Each entry features a color photograph, a page of information about the species, and a small inset map showing its likely range in Connecticut. The guide is simple and easy to read, and there’s a nice index in the back. The photographs are of particularly good quality for the size. Recommended.
Great size and organization but lacks content! I received the book the other day and was so excited to have a book of just CT birds. I like how it is organized by color and is small enough to take into the field. However, after looking at the checklist/index I was very disappointed. Many birds I have seen on my walks were not included: Red-shouldered hawk, Eastern Wood-peewee, Veery, Wood Thrush, Black throated green warbler, Canada warbler, and blue winged warbler. The book is going back and I’m getting the Stokes Field Guide to Birds:…
Useful Indexed by bird color, which is helpful. It is not complete so some birds are simply not there. That is the price for a colorful, well photographed book that transports easily.
