This book was a little more work to find what I was looking for than my favorite field guide but that’s to be expected. It does not provide as much “separate x from y by” type of info as some bird books do but it worked for me. Good, but short for the money This book is good and has good illustrations and information, but is rather poor for the money. Most field guides this price (especially from Princeton) are better quality and have more information. It is very short, at just 94 plates, which cover all the birds in and around the West Indies. However, for this small guide, I would not want to pay over $20 again.
Basic authoritative guide for identifying birds in the Caribbean This is the basic authoritative guide for all experienced birders and beginning birders who travel to the West Indies. The illustrations are well done, and the size and weight of the book are convenient for carrying in a daypack while hiking. There is sufficient information for helping one to differentiate individuals within a species. I can’t imagine making a birding or wildlife trip to the Caribbean without this resource.
