I waited until after a rain so the soil was damp and the base screwed easily into the ground. I did use a metal rod through the holes provided to act as a lever, which made the task much easier.   3. I love it! After reading the reviews for most of the other “flimsy” Feeder Poles I took a chance on this one because it was made of steel. It arrived on time and in perfect shape, box and contents. The item is not lightweight – 50 lbs and very sturdy as I’d hope. After putting the first two pieces together easily with by hand and then tightened by a wrench I started to put it in the ground.
