In order to prevent damage and leakage, do not screw the bottle onto the base too tightly. Screw it on until it just touches the base and then stop. It does not require a tight seal since the nectar flows from the mouth of the bottle into the base.

Since I get a variety of hummingbird species (some like to perch and some like to hover when feeding) … I live in the land of hummingbirds (Costa Rica) and have six feeders…two of this type and they are my favorites.
