Great general-purpose binoculars for little $$$. These binoculars are a great deal. I have a telescope as well as giant binoculars for astronomical viewing, but I wanted some binos that I could hold in my hands (the others are too heavy) for general and astronomical use. I read the chapter on binoculars in “The Backyard Astronomer’s Guide” (the ‘bible’ for such things), and they said that 7X50 (7X magnification, 50mm light-gathering lenses) are ideal for general use and perfectly adequate for casual astronomical viewing. I gambled…. and lost Well…. I bought these bins based on a recommendation from Space.com and Celestron’s reputation (love their telescopes). But I lost the QC lottery. For such an inexpensive pair of bins, I do not expect the top end of everything, of course. The cheap lens covers were expected, and I think the bins’ fit and finish were better than expected at this price point. The glass looks decent, but not amazing, of course. But certainly good for the price point. BUT…. binoculars are meant to be used…
Great binoculars for the backyard astronomer. I recently became interested in astronomy and purchased this set of binoculars, based on the recommendation of several amateur astronomy websites and books. They have been a great aid to learning the night sky and viewing objects or clusters that are not visible to the naked eye in my moderately night-polluted sky.
