Droll Yankees Bird Feeder, Platform Cardinal Bird Feeders with Roof Cover, 10 Inch Diameter, Clear, X-1If big birds are monopolizing your birdfeeder, you need a secure and safe way to discourage them without also chasing off the little guys. The Seed Saver birdfeeder from Droll Yankees uses an adjustable umbrella-like dome to keeps big birds from looting the seed and fruit intended for smaller ones. The dome has the added benefit of protecting small birds from the weather while they feed. Held securely in place wherever you put it by an adjustable collar and set screw combination, the dome can be tailored to accommodate your favorite feathered population. Though the Seed Saver features a stout brass rod for hanging, it can also be pole-mounted. Simple to assemble and easy to clean, it holds three cups of suet, seed, fruit, or mealworms. –Emily Bedard

  1. Sturdy! My Cardinals, and others, Love it! It’s been up for a couple of years and shows no signs of wear! The cardinals flock to it, and now that spring is back, a lively and beautiful array of color as the finches, cardinals, and others enjoy the seedsl The tray is protected by a sturdy dome, which helps in wet weather to keep the birdseed dry in light rain. It is so well made, I have never had to readjust the dome, and the metal hangar is thick and sturdy. It has blown off the hanging stand a few times in severe wind, but despite…

  2. Keeps seed clean and pretty dry Previously I had a cheaper version of this from Lowes, (about $15), seed tray was angled out, and it was more shallow. The birds, especially the cardinals liked that one much better. They would perch on the rim and eat. It fell to the ground one day and cracked, so I bought this one. Here in snowy New England, I wanted a feeder that would still be able to offer my feathered babies food even in heavy snows. This feeder does that only occasionally. A big driving snow covers the seeds as much as it does in my other feeders without the special provision for seed-protection. Sometimes this feeder does protect the…
